Getting Started
Choosing a Domain Name
When choosing a domain name keep in mind to include your main keyword in the name. If your main keyword was “Swiss Replica Watches” then you would want a domain name like: www.swiss-replica-watches.com.
Using the Right Keywords
By “right keywords”, we mean the best keyword phrases that match what your customers are already looking for. Long-tail keyword phrases (phrases with three or more keywords) make up a majority of daily searches and are generally a lot easier to rank with, and usually convert better.
How Many Keywords Should I Use?
When using your optimal keywords, try to make the primary keyword phrase represent about 4% of the text content.
Meta Tags
Title Tag
When you’re searching, the Title meta tag is the first main bold-text link you see in the results. This is the bread and butter of your SEO presence. You are allowed between 65 and 70 characters so use that small amount of text wisely.
Try to include your most important keywords at the beginning of the title as this will increase prominence. When optimizing the title tag, get straight to the point and think about how it will read to a human. The title should make sense, but you must refrain from using stop words like “to, a, an, as, in, etc.”
Google and Bing overlook these words and including them really just decreases your keyword depth.
Description Tag
The Description meta tag is the descriptive text just below the title in search results and has a 155-160 maximum character limit. Use the description to detail what the page is about and attempt to entice the user into clicking.
Keywords Tag
Please don’t use this tag anymore; search engines don’t require it anymore and it’s sole purpose now is to give away your optimized keywords to your competition.
On-Page Search Engine Optimization Strategies
H1, H2, H3 Tags
Try to break your pages up into sections using one H1 tag for the main title and H2 & H3 tags for subheadings. Use the best, most relevant keyword phrase for your H1 tag.
Internal Links
Try to interlink your pages using keyword rich anchor text where it deems necessary. For example, if you have two separate but similar services you can have a link that says, “See Also: other service page title here” to make it easy to bounce between pages. Use breadcrumb navigation when you have a link depth of 3 or more (i.e. Home / Services / Main Service).
Alt Tag Attribute for Images
Try to include descriptive Alt Tags whenever possible and use your keywords. People using screen reader software need this tag to understand what that object is and Google indexes that information, so it has SEO benefit. W3C will label all missing Alt tags as errors as well. It’s best not to forget about these and to implement them as soon as you link the image to the content.
